WHO WE ARE
Motley Property Group, formerly known as Motley Apartment Management, has been a leader in real estate investments for over 40 years with a specialty in value-add projects. We own and manage classic, comfortable, and sustainable multifamily communities in blooming markets with a keen focus on providing best-in-class care for our properties and tenants.
As a family-owned business, we pride ourselves on meeting the demands of today’s tenant with a heightened level of respect and responsibility, just as we would our own kin. Anyone who rents at a Motley property will be beyond satisfied with our service and experience.
OUR HERITAGE
Founded in 1980, our company is the brainchild of Allen Motley – a passionate visionary with a knack for business. Prior to Motley Apartment Management, Allen was in the janitorial business, starting out as a subcontractor for major players in New Jersey. At the tender age of 24, Allen applied his learnings in the field and entrepreneurial spirit to form Motley Janitorial Service in partnership with his life partner, Evelyn. After 15 prosperous years, 250+ employees and multiple major cleaning contracts (i.e. Port Authority of NY/NJ) Mr. and Mrs. Motley were ready for their next venture – real estate.
In 1978, Allen purchased his first 2-family home as an investment property and in just three years’ time, was able to purchase his first multi-family rental property – a 42-unit building in the north district of Newark, New Jersey. This major acquisition was named Evelyn Arms, after his wife, and earmarked the formation of Motley Apartment Management – a multi-generational real estate investment company. Together, Allen and Evelyn started to make their mark on the industry.
That 42-unit building has grown to a portfolio of 10 properties across Essex County and growing. Motley Property Group is now helmed by Allen and Evelyn’s 2 children, Traci Motley-Morris and Dennis Motley, with each of his 4 grandchildren at various times working their weekends, summers and school breaks from very young ages gaining a wealth of business knowledge and industry experience.
